This is what I really want now

but it isn't really what I want now

and I don't know who I want to be

but this is what came from the choice that I made

Motivation and desire

and failure to acquire

all that I gave my heart to

The weight of this treasure

is breaking my shoulders

and yet I will not let it go

Wide is the road that I'm pressing my feet into

Something inside me is calling me back to

my first love

This is why I'm running to You

You're all that I need

All I used to want in this world

is dust on my feet

Morning follows evening

but my eyes are darkened

until I gaze on Your Word

Fountains of wisdom

can wash away confusion

and bring life to my thirsty soul

Though I still betray You

and even now deny You

by bowing to the things that I love

Still You are so faithful

How can I be more thankful

I know You will never let me go

In desperation I reach out for mercy

Confessing to You all my sin

Wash me and make me like new in Your light

Let me shine

This is why I'm running to You

Life can try to fill our minds and our hearts with so many other things that are not the simplicity of God's grace, mercy, peace, love, assurance, and faith. It's too easy to lose sight of how God is working in our hearts, in the world. We need to lay aside all that keeps our thoughts from God and His ways.
