little world

© 2008, 2010 Ryan Dale

Oblivious to all around me
unaware of anyone else
stumbling
lost in the cold and the darkness of my own heart

Was it you? Were you the one crying all alone
when I wasn't there?
Could it be? Was I the one dying to the love
that I suffocated?

This little world keeps turning
and I cannot see

beyond it to reality

My little mind keeps churning
and I cannot see
beyond me

I don't know how many times I thought of you
and that was all
All the time, the time that I could have been with you
and now it's gone

Who are you? Do I even know that you're standing there
waiting for me?
Who am I? Why do you love me when I never show you
how much I love you?

This little world keeps turning
and I cannot see

beyond it to reality

My little mind keeps churning
and I cannot see
beyond me

This little world keeps turning...
Ignoring you for far too long
Little world keeps turning...

Giving you nothing but crumbs
My little mind keeps churning...
Reach your hand into my heart
Little mind is burning...
Pull me out, out of my self

Alternate Chorus:

Sinking, drowning in my self

and I can’t swim

Save me, I'm in another world

this little world within

Isaiah 1:2-4

Hebrews 11:16

Pride and selfishness.  We think we're the center of the universe -- everything revolves around us.  We get so self-centered that we don't pay attention to others, and we make the horrible mistake of forgetting about God.  So many people are too busy to even think about God, and they spend their whole lives living for themselves instead of serving the One who gave them that life in the first place.

There is so much more to say about this, so I'll probably write a book about it.  The hardest part about writing this song was trying to convey everything I wanted to say in a limited number of words.  I have rewritten it so many times it's never the same song. This is close to the final version ... I'll probably make only slight changes from now on.*

* I rewrote the entire chorus suddenly one day at work (2/18/2010).
