eye of the storm

© 2008, Ryan Dale

Pounding rain, crashing thunder

all I can do is hide under my roof

Now the pain is falling harder

I can feel my roof breaking away

The crack is wide, the hole is deeper

sorrow storming in like never before

Heavy clouds, something's breaking through

a light, a peace, from You

All around is You

You are the eye of the storm

You are the peace in the chaos

When life breaks apart

I'm safe in your arms

in your eye ... of the storm

Swirling, sinking deeper

Fighting for a single breath of air

Closing in, all around me

There is no escape from things I've made

All I want is a place of refuge

All I need is your hand protecting me

Reach in and pull me closer

Hide me in the shelter of Your wing

This is the very first song I ever wrote, but I've changed it so much I can't even remember all of the original version.  I wrote it in early 1996, played it for my youth group, then I rewrote the whole thing on October 30 of that year.  Now, after more than ten years it is close to being done; as I became more experienced in writing songs I updated it several times. This is the most recent version, but it's not finished (2007).
